ZL. 192 (Zea Lux) is the newest strain of maize from ICOR Laboratories and promises the next agricultural revolution by combining the power of acoustic resonance with best-in-class artificial intelligence. Critical interventions at the emergence stage ensure increasing yields and resistance throughout vegetation and reproduction. Leaving behind the ancient growing methods developed over millennia, ZL.192 welcomes the luminous futures of tomorrow.

Pro Tip

There are three ways to experience Yield - Get in line to walk through the center or once in the Serenity Garden, bypass the line and walk around the corn on the creek side. For a more accessible route, stay on the cement pathway and view the installation from afar.

Inside the Installation

Materials: wood, steel, plastics, LEDs, multi-channel audio system

Yield stems from our team’s shared Midwestern memories of getting lost in fields of corn as children – being dwarfed by the height of the stalks, the seemingly infinite expanse of the fields, the sound of the wind, and the sharp touch of the leaves. Yield makes that familiar experience otherworldly.

Yield extends the narrative world of ICOR Laboratories first established with FuzzPop Workshop’s Deep Lake Future. In this world, rapid ecological change has prompted scientists to undertake desperate experiments for survival.

By the numbers: Yield is 36’ in diameter and is composed of 192 stalks of corn, over 2,300 leaves, 57,600 LED pixels, and over 15,000 ft of cable.

Yield’s light and soundscape combines individually addressable LEDs with a multi-channel sound system allowing light and sound to move through space for an immersive experience.

Due to its scale, Yield had to be constructed in an abandoned school auditorium to program the light and sound sequences.
